H.E. Dr. Sok An Meets with Russian Delegation​ (14/12/2010)


On 14 December 2010 at the Office of the Council of Ministers, there was a meeting between H.E. Dr. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, and delegation from the Russian Federation, led by H.E. Mr. Alexander IGNATOV, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Cambodia.   The meeting focused mainly on vision as well as present and future work in order to further enhance mutual relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Russia.
H.E. Dr. Sok An said that there had been positive development in the mutual relations between Cambodia and Russia, serving as a good foundation for more in-depth and enhanced cooperation between the two countries. He also touched upon the past and close relationship between the two countries which can always be remembered by the Government and people of Cambodia.
H.E. Mr. Alexdander IGNATOV expressed that he would strive to restore the close relationship between the two countries and strongly believed that Cambodia and Russia would be able to strengthen and enhance cooperation in many sectors. The Ambassador also told the Deputy Prime Minister that Russia plans to commemorate the 55th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Russia, and insisted that mutual cooperation should be promoted through the exchange of visits between leaders of both countries.
On that occasion, H.E. Dr. Sok An requested the Russian counterpart to grant scholarships to students of the Royal Academy of Cambodia and to contribute to preserving Khmer culture through preservation and conservation of a particular temple in the Historic Angkor Complex. Meanwhile, He recommended that there should be an MOU or agreement between the Royal Academy of Cambodia and any institution in Russia which can be the framework of cooperation in the future.
In response, H.E. Mr. Alexander IGNATOV agreed with H.E. Dr. Sok An’s recommendation and said that he would convey the recommendation and requests to the Russian government.
H.E. Dr. Sok An also informed the Russian delegation about the enormous potentials of Preah Vihear for tourism, agriculture and industry. Thus, through the delegation, he would like to appeal to the Russian investors to consider the province as their investment destination.
