H.E. Dr. Sok An Presents Honorary Khmer Nationality and Mohasereyvathn of Sahametrei Medal to Mr. Takuya OKADA



Achievements that Mr. Takuya OKADA has made for Cambodian people include 149 school buildings nationwide, archaeological discovery of 274 Buddha statues at Banteay Kdey Temple, Preah Norodom Sihanouk Angkor Museum, etc. In order to pay gratitude and show appreciation to him, King Norodom Sihamoni, upon the request by the Royal Government of Cambodia, conferred an Honorary Khmer Nationality and a Medal – Mohasereyvathn of Sahametrei – to him.

Mr. Takuya OKADA, 85 years old, is a Japanese philanthropist who has contributed more than 10 million USD of his personal wealth to the development of education, economy and cultural sectors as well as to environmental protection in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

At the presentation ceremony, held on 21 December 2010 at the Office of the Council of Ministers, H.E. Dr. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister in Charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, expressed his appreciation to Mr. Takuya OKADA and Spouse who have contributed immensely to the development of  the Kingdom of Cambodia. He stressed that Mr. Takuya OKADA’s charity has promoted economic development though promotion of cultural and environmental preservation in Cambodia. He also wished Mr. Takuya OKADA and Spouse good health.

At the ceremony, attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Takuya OKADA expressed his appreciation for being granted the Khmer Nationality and the Medal, which he considered as pride for Japanese people and himself. He promised to return to Cambodia in late July 2011 in order to attend the Tree Planting Ceremony at Chao Srey Vibol Temple in Siem Reap, aimed at promoting better relations between Cambodia and Japan
